Virgil Weathers, 90, of Searcy, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in his home. He was born March 16, 1924 in Velvet Ridge, Arkansas.
He was the son of Thomas Columbus Weathers and Ethel Fuller Weathers of Velvet Ridge and the brother of Emilene King, Chester Weathers, Laurece Tuggle all of Velvet Ridge, and Wanda Powell Cox of Bradford. He married Winona Myrlene Dunn on December 28, 1946. He was an ordained Bishop with the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee) and was a member of the Church of God since 1947. He began his ministry in 1953 where he served as a Pastor and District Overseer for 32 years. He served on the State Council for 11 years. His pastorates included Elaine, Batesville, Cherry Valley, and Searcy. He pastored South Heights Church of God for 25 years and 5 months before retiring in 1987. After retiring, he became a licensed realtor. He was a World War II Veteran. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wrestling, westerns, the Cardinals, and more importantly living for God and his family. His favorite word was Winona.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Winona Myrlene Weathers; two children, Ann Smith and husband, Billy, and David Weathers and wife, Barbara; four grandchildren, Scott Smith and wife, Teresa, Mandy Mason, Kristi Smith, Jeremy Smith and wife, Heather; seven great grandchildren, Lauren Mason, Eden Sherman and husband, Daryle, Blake Smith, Annika Smith, Trevor Smith, Nicolas Smith, and Mason Smith; five great-great grandchildren, Cameron Mason, Hannah Sherman, Bailey Sherman, Isaac Mason, and Leah Sherman; one sister, Emilene King.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ethel Weathers; siblings, Chester Weathers, Laurece Tuggle, and Wanda Powell Cox; grandson, Tony Tate, and great-grandson, Kane Mason.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at Searcy McEuen Funeral Home. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the South Heights Church of God with interment following at White County Memorial Gardens.
