Thomas "Old Man" Wesley Atkin

Thomas “Old Man” Wesley Atkin, 80, of Romance passed away Friday, March 16th at his home. He was born October 20, 1937 in Porterville, California to the late Frank and Ardis (Buffington) Atkin.

Thomas was a jack of all trades. He worked construction for 40 years and could build anything he put his mind to. Everyone on the job would call him “Old Man” since he was the oldest on the crew and wouldn’t respond to anything else. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 40 years, Linda (Sparks) Atkin; four sons, Jason Atkin, Nathan Atkin (Misty), Dustin Atkin (Tamara) all of Romance, and Scotty Atkin (Kristi) of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Adrian Kever of Heber Springs; and eleven grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Katrina Atkin; and one brother, Gilbert Atkin.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 20th from 6:00-8:00pm at Searcy McEuen Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 21st at 2:00pm in the Searcy McEuen Chapel with burial following at Gravel Hill Cemetery.

I always rememberhis smile, so warm, welcoming and sincere. Linda at his side, his eyes danced with love. This is my memory when I was 10. Some friends and family gathered in Camp Nelson, California near the Tule River. Tommy, that's who he was to me. Lord, give peace in time ofsorrow, faith inlife's storms, and hope in Jesus arms. Bless each of his family, give them strength for each day. In Jesus name. Amen. Sweet rest in Jesus Tommy. Love you, miss you.

I want to share something about Tom from our past. He was one of my favorite cousins. He came to stay with us on the 80 acre Ranch in Success Valley when he needed to repeat 1st grade (should have been starting 2nd). His folks sent him there to go to school with us. "Mrs Mayes will get him caught up" and she did. So we as cousins accepted him into our family and did everything together including games learned at school. We played a lot of hide-and-seek. I remember Tommy coming for a quick visit as a late teen and joining our game of hide-and-seek. Loved him for all those caring things he did. Will miss my Cousin Tommy Atkin.

So many memories! The center of all of them was you and the joy you showed. The time we all went to check geodesic homes and met the love of your life, Linda. The time we went to the ocean and the kids saw the ocean for the first time. The time we went to the mountains
and enjoyed the BIG trees! I enjoyed the sharing and love each and every time. Tom, you will
be sorely missed. There is a hole in my heart now, where memories hold you. Alta Atkin

I was very sad to hear about my Uncle Tommy's passing. Unfortunately, it has been a very long time since I last saw him. I believe it was at my Grandfather's funeral (over 40 years ago). I don't have a specific memory to share but I can picture him standing around, always kind of quiet, and yes Chris, I too remember that mischievous (but cute) smile on his face. I didn't realize how many children he had, and my thoughts and prayers go out to them as well as his wife. He will be missed!

I am heartbroken to hear of this! He & his family has been on my mind for sometime now. I have great memories of Uncle Tommy, Aunt Linda, and cousins, especially when we came to visit him many years ago during his sisters wedding. I got to experience so many firsts with them all. A catfish pond, riding in a go-cart, fireworks (black-cats), fireflies, crazy weather, and Hot Rod magazines! He always had a mischievous smile when he would joke with me. I loved it! I wish we would of stayed in touch more. My thoughts and prayers and with you all. I miss you all!
