Sharon Permenter Churchwell

August 2, 1949 — August 29, 2022

Sharon Permenter Churchwell, 73, of Pangburn, formally of Searcy, peacefully passed at home on August 29, 2022, from acute myeloid leukemia. She was born to Jeff and Amie Townsend Permenter on August 2, 1949, at Porter Rodgers Hospital in Searcy, the last of three daughters. Sharon graduated from Searcy High School in 1967 and married Billy Gene Churchwell, of Griffithville, a few weeks later at Searcy Mission Assembly of God when she was 17.  They were married six weeks before he was drafted into the Vietnam War and then she attended and graduated from beauty college in Jacksonville, driving a 1967 navy/white Comet that she adored as she lived with her parents.  Upon his return from Vietnam over a year later, they lived in California a year and then made their home in Searcy where she started a beauty shop and had three children:  a stillborn daughter in 1969, then Tiffney and Billy Craig.

Sharon loved church activities at Faith Assembly of God and was a lifelong member at that congregation where she served as Women’s Ministry Leader and held other roles.  She worked at Wal-Mart Distribution for 20 years in break-pack and was the custodian at Faith Assembly for decades.  Sharon loved God, her family and activities.  She was the stereotypical red head and could have a fiery temper, but her late husband had a way of calming her by simply saying, “Now, Sharon.” Billy passed in 2010 after 42 years together.   Sharon was a great cook, baker, candy maker and loved extended family get togethers often cooking Sunday lunch for anyone who wanted to join.

Survivors include two sisters, Wanda Holleman of Searcy and Reba (Norris) Cook of Pangburn; children, Tiffney (Tony) King of Pangburn, Billy Craig (Shelly) Churchwell of Searcy; grandchildren, Casey (Tom) Cole of Pangburn, Justin (Kristin) King of Pangburn and Wyatt Keech of Searcy; great grandchildren, Eli, Clay and Gracy Cole and Jordan King, all of Pangburn and many other family members and friends. She was also proceeded in death by her brother-in-law, Dwayne Holleman.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 on Friday, September 2nd at McEuen Funeral Home with family hour from 5:00-6:00.  Services will be at Faith Assembly at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 3rd with burial at Faith Assembly Cemetery, Hwy 16, Searcy.

Memorials may be made to the Pangburn Volunteer Fire Department, 503 Searcy Street, Pangburn, Arkansas, 72121, or the White County Historical Society, PO Box 537, Searcy, Arkansas, 72145.
