Norma Vernell Southerland

Norma Vernell Southerland, 88, of Searcy, Arkansas passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025. She was born on July 14, 1937, in Velvet Ridge, Arkansas to  Herbert W. Throckmorton and Clara E. (Corbit) Throckmorton. She overcame many obstacles, due to having polio at 5 years old. She graduated from Bradford High School and proceeded to complete a business degree at Draughon’s School of Business in Little Rock, Arkansas. She used that training to work for many years in her field of study. “Nell”, as we lovingly called her, was a genuine, loving, giving and funny person.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her wonderful husband, Randall Southerland, and four brothers, Reo Throckmorton, Dee Throckmorton, Larry Throckmorton, and Dub Throckmorton.

She is survived by one sister, Dianne Smith of Judsonia, Arkansas, and a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Searcy McEuen Funeral Home, 2616 South Main Street, Searcy, AR 72143.
