Mr. Melvin Theodus Dockens of Searcy, Arkansas left his earthly home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 20, 2017. He was 92 years old.
Melvin was born on April 23, 1925 to Mary and Odie Dockens in Higginson Arkansas both who preceded him in death. He was the oldest of three children. He had one brother Wilbur Dockens that preceded him in death. He leaves one sister to mourn his passing Margaret (Paul) Robinson of Searcy Arkansas. Melvin went to school in Higginson Arkansas. He very proudly tells all that he made it to the 10th grade and then joined the army and fought in World War II. His duties were to drive the trucks that carried ammunition. If you spent any amount of time with him, he would tell you about his experiences in Munich Germany. He was very proud of his service to the United States army.
Melvin was a hardworking man and provided well for his family. He began working for Missouri Pacific Railroad as a trackman and retired from Union Pacific Railroad. When Melvin wasnt spending time with friends and family or working, his pride and joy was his garden. He raised a garden every year until his health failed.
Melvin accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. He was always honored to tell how his father and the pastor baptized him in Gin Creek as a young boy.
Melvin married the love of his life Jennie Mae Smith, on June 23, 1960. Jennie proceeded him in death. To this union there were two children. Nancy Elizabeth Dockens of Searcy Arkansas who preceded him in death and Mallie (Wayne) Jones of Maumelle Arkansas. Melvin had two children by his first wife Syvicie Turner which preceded him in death that he loved very dearly, Melvin T. Dockens Jr. of Chicago Illinois who preceded him in death and Sandra Faye Jones of Chicago Illinois.
Melvin was lovingly referred to as Uncle Melvin by the community. His older running buddies referred to him as Ace. He was fun man to be around and had a lot of friends young and old. He will be greatly missed as a key elder in the community.
Melvin received very special care from his nephews Wilbur Robinson and Michael Robinson. He looked forward to Wilbur bringing his specially prepared Sunday dinner from his sister Margaret every Sunday. The last few years of his life, God placed a special young man in his path Perry Stobaugh. Perry gave Melvin one on one care up until the last day of his life.
For the past five months of his passing he received compassionate service from the staff at Summit Hospice. They helped to make his last days comfortable and his transition peaceful.
Melvin has finished his work on earth. We all know that because of his profession of faith in Christ that it has secured him a heavenly home with Jesus Christ. He is in no pain and has received his glorified body
