Hazel Davis Hughes

Hazel Davis Hughes, 91, of Searcy left our world December 20, 2013 to join her husband in wishing Jesus happy birthday personally. She was born September 26, 1922 in Shiloh, Arkansas to the late Jim and Minnie Scott Davis.
She had many passions in her life including feeding the hungry, an advocate for the elderly and volunteered for the Sunshine School; loved fishing and gardening and making everyone feel special and welcome in her presence. She wrote for the society page of the local newspaper in the 1970's and 80's; was a member of the extension homemaker's club and a home room Mother spanning 28 years. She started her business career at an early age owning and operating several businesses through the years with her husband with their last business being Hughes Auto Parts, Oil Co. and Machine Shop.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arvil "A.E." Hughes; grandsons, Jackie Hughes II and Jason Hughes; granddaughters, Christy Hughes Boen and Harmony Slapnick; five brothers and six sisters.
She is survived by three sons, Gerald Hughes and wife Lana of Searcy, Jack Hughes of Judsonia, and Max Hughes and wife Juanita of Searcy; three daughters, Alma Hughes of Cabot, Ladonna Pendergrass and husband Roger of Little Rock, and Tanji Hughes Langley and husband Mitchell of Searcy; twelve grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and thirteen great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 27 at Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28 in the funeral home chapel with interment following at White County Memorial Gardens.
