Dorothy Shands King

Dorothy P. Shands King, 93, of Searcy, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, October 17, 2012. She was born February 16, 1919 in Gum Springs, Arkansas to the late Thomas Claude and Jessie Creson Saunders.

Mrs. King was a faithful member of West Race Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Earl Shands and second husband, Paul King; two sons, Donnie and Richard Shands; and several siblings.

She is survived by one son, Billy Shands and wife Jane of Searcy; one daughter, Sue Slayton and husband Jerry of Searcy; two sisters, Minnie Spann of California and Mary Gillooley of Florida; four grandchildren, Gina Ramey and husband Fred, Steve Shands and wife Cindy, Stephanie Butler and husband Brice, Stacy Sanders and husband Jerry; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at the Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the West Race Baptist Church Building Fund.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Searcy Healthcare for their love and kindness of "Granny King" for the last two years of her life.
