Dorothea G. Mitchell, 80, of Searcy went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 18th at Unity Health Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 1, 1942, in Flint, Michigan to the late Rev. William and Genevieve (Bishop) Ruff.
Dorothea was a faithful, strong, Christian woman. She was baptized and received the Holy Ghost at a young age. She never wavered from her faith. Dorothea spent her entire lifetime as either a Pastor’s daughter or a Pastor’s wife. She loved to play the organ and sing. She retired from the State of Arkansas after 40 years. Dorothea was an avid shopper; however, her shopping trips were spent on others and almost never on herself. She was a giver. If she knew you needed something she would seek it out and surprise, you with a gift. Christmas time was her favorite holiday. She would spend time decorating her house and gathering gifts to give out. She enjoyed many things in her life, reading, crocheting, puzzles, embroidery, but most of all she was an awesome mother and always put her family first. She cherished every moment. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 58 years, Rev. William Mitchell; one son, Scott Mitchell (Monica) of Nashville, Tennessee; one daughter, Tamara Jackson-Mitchell (TJ) of Searcy; seven grandchildren, Dustin Gillham and fiancé, Corrie Staggs-Colwick, Ashley Layrock (Lucas), Devin Mitchell, Bryant Dugger, Amber Feagin (Jordon), Holland Allen, Christian Lawson; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Ron Ruff (Judy) of Sarasota, Florida; one sister, Rena Harris of Dowagiac, Michigan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Dorothea was preceded in death by four brothers, Leon, Billy, Dennis, and Mahlon Ruff.
